Artist Charles Johnson of Ft. Walton Beach has stated that he and artist Nik Dudley of
Niceville conceived "Spectumism," their philosophy about art and what
they hoped would become an art movement, and that artist Gabe Lewis of Navarre was an
early adherent.
Johnson sometimes diagrammed his paintings to exaggerate the
significance of the process over the result. "Spectrumism is a form of
art that depends upon the exaggerated association that exists between
components, the spectrum, and all that pertains to the manifestation of
Spectrumism and its various meants of production," said Johnson.
In one manifestation of Spectrumism, the colors appear as red, orange,
yellow, green, blue, and purple, so in a painting and artist would
replace lighter tones with yellow, green or orange and darker tones with
red, blue or purple. However, adherents are quick to point out that
Spectrumist work is not always based upon colors.
